The first block of discussion is entitled “Swiss experience in fighting corruption in Ukraine”. Switzerland's Ambassador to Ukraine Christian Schoenenberger, Chairperson of the deputy group for Interparliamentary Relations with the Swiss Confederation Iryna Berezhna, Deputy Chairperson of the group Ihor Rybakov, the people’s deputies, leading experts and journalists participated in the event.
On opening discussion, Iryna Berezhna noted that “For many Ukrainians Switzerland is associated with reliable banks, high level of welfare, exemplar medical and environmental standards. However, for us, the people’s deputies, Switzerland represents also a valuable experience in fighting corruption. I am very happy that this experience can be at least partially implemented in Ukraine with the help of recommendations, elaborated by the best anti-corruption experts from Switzerland”.
Chairperson of the deputy group also thanked the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the decision to send to Ukraine “Mark Pieth, one of the best experts in the sphere, Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology at the University of Basel”.
Switzerland's Ambassador to Ukraine Christian Schoenenberger informed that he is “proud that there is such a high level of corruption rejection in Switzerland”. He noted also that “it is extremely important that other countries follow the experience of Switzerland, especially what concerns mentality. We do not accept corruption at the level of mentality”.
Ihor Rybakov noted that following the results of discussion, he expects specific measures to be taken to fight corruption, particularly, in regard to elaboration and adoption of the law that would control expenditures of officials.
